Well, Sammie has finally found his perfect home.  Who would have thought he would prefer to be a western horse.  Not me!  But Sammie and his new mom Ashleigh are in love with each other.  I have never seen him so relaxed and content around someone.  Those are the partnerships that warm your heart.  He's catching on to the Parelli training and teaching Ashleigh all about being an equine mom.  I'm sure the sugar covered apples are a huge help!  He's definitely going to love the weekend getaways to Virginia.  Welcome to the Brookwood Family!

Sam Supreme fondly known as Sammie was acquired from the Penn National racetrack in Grantville, Pennsylvania.  He is an 9 year old Thoroughbred born and bred in Florida. 

    

The trainer we bought him from owned him for the last 5 years. They kept him so long because he was such a pleasure to ride and work with.  His nickname is "Mr. Personality."  The expressions and mannerisms of this horse speak loads about who he truly is.  One of his favorite games is to play catch with his Jolly Ball.

He loves to gallop and has a nice flowing canter.  Thanks to his short coupling he is able to spring lightly over the ground with each stride.  His type of movement has been described as a "daisy clipper."  Since arriving at our farm, we have been working on such things as turn on the forehand, turn on the haunches to get him more attuned to a riders leg.  He's also been spending a lot of time with the dogs and has bonded with our other gelding Brookwood's Bodhi.  They enjoy playing with one another and chasing each other around the pasture.
